Located on Blowhole Point, the Kiama Lighthouse is hard to miss.
Established in 1887, 10 years after the creation of the Robertson Basin, the man-made Kiama Harbour, the lighthouse sits 36.5 metres above sea level.
The Principal Keeper's House was destroyed by vandals in the 1920s. However, the single storey Assistant Keeper's House, used for many years as a residence for harbour pilots, is now the Pilots' Cottage Museum.
There is no access available to the inside of the lighthouse.

Reminiscent of the Kiama area's strong farming history, many of the stone walls were constructed more than a century ago as paddocks were cleared for cropping and stock agistment.
Fine examples can be seen in the hills and valleys west of Kiama township, with much of the work being attributed to Thomas Newing, a prolific and skilled stone wall builder who worked in the area for over 60 years. The building method developed by Newing uses the local volcanic stone, and consists of two wall faces leaning against each other capped by a continuous row of larger stones.
Nearly 400 stone walls have been listed as heritage items in the Kiama Municipality. The walls that occur along the Saddleback Mountain Road have been repaired or reconstructed by volunteers using the traditional methods.
More information on the history of the area, including the dry stone walls, can be found at the Kiama Library and on their website.
For such a small area, the Kiama region has so much to share of its past - both from Indigenous culture and the two centuries since European settlement. Throughout the municipality, you'll find information and plaques that provide a window into how things used to be.
Immerse yourself in the area's timeline by grabbing a copy of the Heritage Walks brochure from the Kiama Visitor Information Centre. This simple brochure maps out historically significant points of interest including the Kiama Lighthouse, Pilot's Cottage, Post Office, Terrace Houses, Masonic Temple, Old Fire Station, original banks, pubs and churches in the Kiama town centre and surrounding suburbs of Gerringong and Jamberoo. Also you have to visit the famous Blowhole, a unique natural feature which George Bass discovered on December 6, 1797 when on his voyage of coastal exploration.
Alternatively, download the Kiama Library's My Place: A Digital Tour of Kiama app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device and follow the virtual guide around the highlights of Kiama. The tour includes 15 points of interest, six audio components and takes approximately 45 minutes to navigate through - the perfect complement to your walk.

Kendalls Beach is a small, quiet beach located just south of Surf Beach in Kiama.
The shallow waters and gentle waves of Kendalls Beach make it a popular spot for young children and less confident swimmers; the bordering headlands of Kendalls Point and Keleula Head also create approachable surf which is generally free from rips.
Picnic tables and barbecue facilities can be found just metres from the sand, while Chapman Point Reserve (located at the northern end of the beach) makes an ideal venue for various sports and also events.
Every so often, nature likes to show off, and Kiama Blowhole is the perfect place to see it.
Kiama's famous Blowhole is the largest in the world, and when the swell is running from the southeast, you're in for a real treat. The 2.5 metres opening in the rock face has had its plumes of water recorded at heights of over 30 metres!
With multiple accessible viewing platforms, the blowhole can be seen from multiple vantage points, be sure to check out the most eastern point to take in the full height of the rock formation.
This landmark has attracted people to the region for over 100 years, and the first sightings were recorded by George Bass when he anchored his whaleboat in the sheltered bay, now known as Kiama Harbour, in December 1797. It is now estimated to attract 1,300,000 visitors each year.
Only a short distance from the town centre and railway station, the Kiama Blowhole has picnic and parking areas, with a rock pool nearby. Public toilets are always open, and there is a cafe located next to the Kiama Visitor Information Centre.
Located just a few minutes west of Kiama township, Spring Creek offers a wonderful example of successfully rehabilitated wetlands.
Follow the short walking path along the creek banks, winding through a variety of regenerating bushland, or pause at the purpose-built bird hide to enjoy the abundant birdlife.
Keep an eye out for the many waterbirds and common bush birds that call these wetlands home, including Golden-headed Cisticola, Black-fronted Dotterel, Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike and Mistletoebird.
Bonaira Native Gardens provide a magical oasis easily explored by foot or bike, with a path meandering through the forest floor and plaques to identify the variety of flora. This is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in nature.
Surrounded by towering trees and dense undergrowth, it is a perfect place to enjoy a picnic lunch with friends and family.
The walk takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and is an attraction the whole family will enjoy.
