Fischer-Z - Melbourne

Sat, 28 Nov, 7:30 pm AEDT

Melbourne · Check price with organiser

Fischer-Z will embark on their first-ever Australian tour in November–December 2026, as part of the band's worldwide 50th anniversary celebrations. Although they have never toured Australia, Fischer-Z have enjoyed notable chart success here. Their global breakthrough "So Long" (1980) peaked at #15 on the Kent Music Report, followed by "The Perfect Day" (1987), which reached #12 on the ARIA Charts. These successes cemented a loyal Australian fan base, with Australia now ranking as the band's fourth-largest Spotify streaming market. Formed in 1976 by frontman John Watts after his unconventional path from clinical psychology into music, Fischer-Z quickly built a reputation for politically charged songwriting and high-energy performances. Their debut album Word Salad (1979) helped define the emerging post-punk movement, while "So Long" became one of the first music videos broadcast on MTV, propelling the band onto the global stage. Their third album Red Skies Over Paradise (1981) remains a career highlight. Across five decades, Fischer-Z have released 23+ albums, sold over two million records, and performed 3,000+ concerts worldwide, sharing stages with artists including James Brown, The Police, Dire Straits and Bob Marley. 2026 marks a true milestone — celebrating 50 years since Fischer-Z's formation — and, for the first time ever, bringing that legacy live to Australian audiences.

Alter State 2026

Wed, 2 Dec, 10:00 am AEDT

Melbourne · From $0

In 2026, Alter State explores the theme Regeneration: Building Deaf and Disabled Futures. Regeneration is what comes after disruption. Not a return to how things were, but the slow, deliberate work of tending new ground. It's a theme that invites collaboration over combat. Instead of pushing against old systems, you re-imagine what can be built in its place. This idea of regeneration runs deeper than metaphor. It's about the practical, patient work of care passed between generations. The small acts of tending that make a future possible long before anyone can see it taking shape. It's also about recognising where you are in a longer cycle. After a period of disruption, growth doesn't simply resume where it left off. It reorganises. New shapes emerge. The task now is to nurture those first green shoots and to imagine, together, what the next version of the sector could look like. Experience the Alter State 2026 program across Melbourne. Program, tickets and access information for Alter State 2026 available now on the event website. The line-up for Housewarming is spectacular and it's free. Seats are limited, book now.
