Buderim Falls

Buderim

Buderim Forest Park is a 45 hectare haven of tranquillity less than a kilometre from the north side of Buderim village on the Sunshine Coast –just 15 minutes from the coast. With its towering trees, meandering tracks and stunning waterfall, this sub-tropical oasis is a paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike. Buderim Falls, also known as Serenity Falls, it’s a wonderful place to visit at any time of year, and looks particularly spectacular after rainfall when the waters cascade down the rock face into the waterhole below. The 600 metre walkway from Lindsay Road will take you on a picturesque forest ramble along the banks of Martins Creek’s cascading waters. This is the easiest part of the walk and is wheelchair friendly. From the end of the boardwalk you can continue upwards through the bush via a rugged trail to the waterfall. For direct access to the waterfall and the high arch bridge spanning the creek, start at Quorn Close – it’s an easy to moderate hike to the falls via a bush track. The Quorn close entry to the reserve is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.

It is heritage listed and represents a fine example of late 19th century design using pit-sawn and hand crafted local rainforest and hardwood timbers. The Cottage stands where it was built behind Buderim's main street, Burnett St. in about 1882. In 1952 it was purchased by local school teacher Sybil Vise who subsequently gifted it to the community to be used as a museum. The land is part of the the traditional lands of the Kabi Kabi people.

A dive for experienced divers only, the rocky reef at Barwon Banks is riddled with caves, ledges, bommies and gutters. Decorating this varied terrain are black coral trees, soft corals, gorgonians and sea whips. While a good collection of reef fish and invertebrate species reside on this reef, this is a site to look for the big stuff. Schooling pelagic fish gather at Barwon Banks, with masses of barracuda, trevally, rainbow runners and batfish swarming around divers. This is a good location to see turtles, stingrays, eagle rays, wobbegongs, gropers, leopard sharks and larger shark species, with both bronze whalers and tiger sharks common.
