Aziza - the internationally acclaimed jazz quartet featuring Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Lionel Loueke and Eric Harland - reunites in Sydney for one night this October, marking ten years since the release of their acclaimed debut album.
Aziza stands apart as one of the defining modern jazz groups of our time. Combining deep groove, rhythmic complexity, electric intensity and global musical influence, the quartet created a sound that connected the sophistication of modern jazz with the physical force of a live band operating at full power. Drawing from African, Caribbean, jazz-rock and improvisational traditions, Aziza became recognised for performances that could shift from hypnotic pulse to explosive momentum within seconds - precise, fearless and completely locked together.
The project united four of the most influential musicians in contemporary music. Dave Holland's revolutionary approach to rhythm and ensemble writing, Chris Potter's relentless improvisational fluency, Lionel Loueke's singular blend of guitar, harmony and West African influence, and Eric Harland's generation-defining rhythmic language formed a band that quickly developed a global cult following.
For this special performance at the Hall, Aziza will revisit music from their legendary debut album while opening the door to new improvisation, new energy and a decade of shared musical evolution. Few modern jazz groups have combined this level of musicianship, identity and live intensity. Ten years on, Aziza still sounds entirely its own.
Praised by The New York Times for her "penetrating musical intelligence", internationally acclaimed Australian pianist Sarah Grunstein has performed in the United States, Austria, Hungary, Italy, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and her homeland. Reviews have likened her performances to those of Dame Myra Hess, Harold Samuel, and Wanda Landowska.
As a Steinway Artist who trained at the Sydney Conservatorium and The Juilliard School, she is passionate about historic pianos and Bach improvisation. A sought-after pianist and educator inspired by historical performance interpretations, Sarah Grunstein has taught at The Juilliard School as Teaching Fellow, the Manhattan School of Music, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and the City University of New York.
The Goldberg Variations is one of the most celebrated keyboard works by Johann Sebastian Bach, written around 1741. It consists of an opening aria, thirty variations, and a return of the aria at the end. Sarah Grunstein is widely admired for her interpretations of the Goldberg Variations, particularly for her clarity, emotional intelligence, and individuality. Critics and audiences have praised her performances as deeply thoughtful mesmerising, tempestuous, and technically commanding.

It strikes like a particle, but moves like a wave; emanates in straight lines, yet drapes the world in beauty. Light is the ultimate ephemera; it can't be bottled, only felt, remembered, or experienced blazingly new.
Particles of Light sees light in the sound of six voices, in radiant vocal music that glimmers, refracts and fractures into colour, from the 'light tales' of Elena Kats-Chernin to the dawning of Nardi Simpson's 'Yarrager Mayraa'. Join Luminescence Chamber Singers as they take the stage for a joyful celebration of their founding metaphor: how singing illuminates.

Following the success of their acclaimed concerts at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne's PICA, TSIM have agreed to headline their first national tour in over 30 years.
Because TSIM wants all your money, they will entice you to come to every show on the tour by playing a radically different selection of fan favourites each night. Plus all the other weird shit that goes on at a TISM show.
One of Australia's most influential and enduring bands, TSIM have spent decades forging a reputation for their genre-blurring, boundary-smashing, sarcasm-wielding (and entirely anonymous) antics. Emerging in the late 80s, the balaclava-clad group have explored dance, pop, rock and caustic wit amongst other musical delights, spanning seven studio albums, countless award nominations and two ARIA Award wins, millions of streams, and a reputation for blistering live performances.
Equal measures of joy and chaos, a TSIM concert has to be witnessed to be believed. Don't miss the unique opportunity to catch this most idiosyncratic of Australian bands at their peak.
Experience a classic of European literature brought to life in the heart of Sydney with Scene Theatre Sydney's production of The Good Soldier Švejk.
Cheerful, unpredictable and seemingly simple, Josef Švejk finds himself caught in a world of military orders, bureaucracy and absurd authority. Yet as the world around him descends into madness Švejk survives - and quietly subverts it all.
Adapted by Scene Theatre Sydney Artistic Director Carol Dance, this entertaining 90-minute production combines comedy, satire and thought-provoking observations about authority and human nature.
Performances take place in the intimate King George Room at the heritage-listed Castlereagh Boutique Hotel, conveniently located in Sydney CBD near Gadigal and Town Hall stations.
Guests can enjoy a drink before the performance, with the theatre bar opening 45 minutes before showtime.
