The Piano Party

Fri, 4 Dec, 7:30 pm AEDT

Coffs Harbour · From $44

Not Karaoke. Not a Concert. A Piano Party. December is a time for catching up with friends, celebrating the year that was and making room for a little fun. Whether it's a long-overdue get-together or an end-of-year celebration, the Jetty Theatre is hosting the perfect festive night out. The Piano Party is bringing a lively dose of music, laughter and nostalgia to town with an invitation to do more than sit back and watch. Featuring pianist Brian Cousins and entertainer Tim Maddren, the show celebrates the songs that have brought people together across generations. From the high-energy hits of the 1950s, '60s and '70s to modern favourites including "Sweet Caroline" "Get Lucky" and "Creep", the evening promises a soundtrack packed with familiar tunes and plenty of opportunities to join in. The Piano Party looks back to a time before Spotify and headphones, when the piano was the centrepiece of a gathering, and knowing the words was all part of the fun. It's not quite a concert and it's not karaoke, but rather a shared musical experience where the audience becomes part of the performance.

Baajim Debut Solo Exhibition

Sat, 5 Dec, 3:00 pm AEDT

Corindi Beach · Free admission

Baajim is magic in Gumbaynggirr language, and this powerful new exhibition by Gumbaynggirr artist Lilly Clegg celebrates the beauty of nature and explores a sense of knowing that there is far more happening in this world than what meets the eye. Lilly is a visual artist, weaver, sculptor, ceramicist and cultural educator whose creative practice is grounded in nature and connection, and her vibrant inaugural solo exhibition reflects this journey of exploration in its diversity. After a youth spent between her mother's mob in the Clarence Valley and a commune in Mullumbimby, Lillys' contemporary art practice has developed into a psychedelic translation of cultural experience, rich with mystical and astrological symbology. Through Baajim, you are invited to experience a world shaped by ancestral wisdom, creativity, and connection. Each artwork carries layers of meaning, a celebration of identity, Country and the living spirit of Gumbaynggirr culture. Baajim is more than an exhibition; it is an invitation to connect, learn and experience the magic and mystery of an unseen world. The exhibition will open at Wadjar Regional Indigenous Gallery. Refreshments provided. Please RSVP via Facebook, Humanitix or the website for catering purposes. Thanks to Create NSW for supporting public programs.

Gumgali Track, Orara East State Forest

Korora

Gumgali Track is located in the beautiful Orara East State Forest, also home to Sealy Lookout (Niigi Niigi) and the Forest Sky Pier. A free and self-directed Aboriginal cultural interpretive experience along Gumgali Track shares the Gumbaynggirr creation story of Gumgali, the black goanna. Visitors are greeted with a display at the head of the track, featuring the tale of Gumgali written in Gumbaynggirr and a Welcome to Country from Gumbaynggirr Elder Uncle Mark Flanders. Along the track, visitors will encounter elements of the story of Gumgali through sculpture and art. Goanna sculptures hide in trees and on the ground, timber public art provides a place for visitors to capture images or grab a seat, and a striking 30-metre mural, spray-painted by local artists Yowa and Snarl over a cluster of utility buildings, is a colourful cultural experience. Gumgali Track concludes at Korora Lookout at the soundbar, with spoken versions of the story of Gumgali delivered in English by 12-year-old Ronan Walker and in Gumbaynggirr by language teacher Clark Webb. These stories can be enjoyed from church pew-style seating at the lookout before taking in the broader coastal ocean views from the viewing platform. Gumgali Track is a relatively easy grade return walk.

Eastern Side lookout

Coffs Harbour

The Eastern Side lookout is located a short walk from the Muttonbird Island outdoor learning space along a paved walkway. As you’re walking along the track to the lookout, on either side of the path you’ll notice open entrances to muttonbird burrows. Signage along the way explains the lifecycle of these migratory birds. It is really important to stay on the track as the burrows are fragile and the plant cover provides little protection from cave-ins which can be disastrous for the birds. The Eastern Side lookout is perched above wave-worn rock platforms at the eastern end of the walkway. You’ll enjoy unimpeded views of Solitary Islands Marine Park all year round and between May and November you might see humpback whales on their annual migration. On a clear day you can see all the way along the north coast to South West Rocks in the south and north to Woolgoolga.
